Ministry of Culture to hold concert of Hakka, Taiwanese and indigenous pop music at Riverside Live House in Taipei

The Ministry of Culture will host the "Taiwanese, Hakka and Indigenous Classic Pop Songs Concert (臺客原經典重現演唱會)" at the Riverside Live House in Ximending, downtown Taipei, on Jan. 16. The concert will be presented in three parts, each featuring popular Taiwanese songs, Hakka songs, and Indigenous songs.

A total of 11 music groups of different generations will be on stage, and their music will showcase the development of Taiwanese, Hakka and Indigenous pop music. Audience will be able to see segments of the "Documentary on the Development of Taiwanese, Hakka and Indigenous Pop Music (臺語、客語、原住民族語流行音樂發展史影音紀錄)" produced by the Ministry of Culture.

The documentary covers the development of pop music of different ethno-linguistic groups from 1945 to 2020, spanning 75 years. The production team interviewed more than 100 musicians and people behind the scene, including renowned artists such as Chi Lu-hsia (紀露霞), Liu Fu-zhu (劉福助), Emily Guan (官靈芝), Kan Siong-jin (簡上仁), Ceko (盧靜子), Ni Chong-hua (倪重華), Shino Lin (林曉培), Jutoupi (朱約信), Paicx Yatauyungana (高慧君), lead vocalist of "The Chairman" Wu Yung-chi (吳永吉), member of "Quarterback" Hu Shen (鄭峰昇), Hsieh Yu-wei (謝宇威), Puadull (陳建年), Hsieh Ming-yu (謝銘祐), Lin Sheng Xiang (林生祥), Chung Yung-feng (鍾永豐), Ric Huang (荒山亮), Biung Tak-Banuaz (王宏恩), Suming Rupi (舒米恩), and Ilid Kaolo (以莉高露).

The "Taiwanese, Hakka and Indigenous Classic Songs Concert" will kick off with "Hakka Voices" at 1:30 p.m. on Jan. 16, featuring singers Huang Lian-yu (黃連煜), Shino Lin (林曉培), Gina Yang (楊淑喻), and Lo Si-rong (羅思容) as well as Hakka-language emcee Bella Hsu (許千蕙).

The second part, "Indigenous Voices," will proceed at 4 p.m. , featuring singers Ceko (盧靜子), Magaitan Lhkatafatu (瑪蓋丹), Nanwan Sisters (南王姊妹花), Biung Tak-Banuaz (王宏恩), and it will be emceed by Golden Bell Awards finalist Panay Keliw (巴奈·葛六).

At 6 p.m. singers Chi Lu-hsia (紀露霞), Jutoupi (朱約信), and Olivia Tsao (曹雅雯) and emcee Maggie Kuo (郭奕均) will present "Taiwanese Voices." 

Through the multilingual musical performances of artists from different generations and the documentary, audience will be able to appreciate the charm of Taiwan's pop music scene in different stages of its development.
