'Through the Reflection of Green Island' exhibition opening at Green Island White Terror Memorial Park

The National Human Rights Museum (NHRM) will be launching the "Through the Reflection of Green Island (假如綠島是一面鏡子)" exhibition on May 17, as part of the 2021 Green Island Human Rights Art Festival (2021綠島人權藝術季) at the Green Island White Terror Memorial Park (白色恐怖綠島紀念園區) in Green Island, Pingtung County. Through contemporary artistic creations, the exhibition, using "imprisonment" and "dispersion" as the themes, explores life situations experienced in different eras.

Deputy Minister of Culture Lee Ching-hwi (李靜慧) indicated in a speech that the NHRM is committed to discovering and preserving the history of human rights violations, and, three years ago, the museum proposed to convert through art media the painful lessons of the past into our understanding of Taiwan's history, for the purpose of informing Taiwan’s future generations and citizens, and even the international community on the topic of human rights. She said that the first sight of the title "Through the Reflection of Green Island" left a strong impression on her, as Green Island was a place where human rights abuse occurred.

Lee especially thanked the teachers of Taipei National University of the Arts (TNUA) for leading young students to participate in the exhibition's curation, and she also thanked the predecessors for their willingness to share their experiences with younger generations so that these experiences can be converted into themed art.

Lee said, "I hope to recommend it to the public. Green Island is not just a scenic site; it is also a classroom for visitors to learn about themselves and the land."
