NTMoFA presents 'Lan Hao-Lun & Luca Bonaccorsi: 9,663' exhibition illustrating scenes of Taiwan and Italy

Titled "Lan Hao-Lun & Luca Bonaccorsi: 9,663," the cross-country new media interdisciplinary exhibition organized by the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts (NTMoFA) will be launched at the multiple screens area of NTMoFA from July 13 to August 18.

Referring to the geographical distance between Taiwan and Italy (9663 kilometers), the work uses new media audiovisual technology to present two windows, connecting scenes of daily life in Taiwan and Italy.

It juxtaposes the melancholic and beautiful visual contrasts through the images featuring traffic hubs, places of worship, gathering spaces, and urban sites. Additionally, it explores the distance between people, especially in the context of increased unemployment during the pandemic, which has profoundly affected the inner states and daily routines of people.

Through the work, visitors can reflect on our current lives, and ponder about how to conquer the distance through the invisible windows in our hearts to face the uncertainty of the future together.

In accordance with the latest COVID-19 prevention measures, the opening ceremony will be conducted online on July 17, showcasing a live music performance by Taiwan-based Italian artist Luca Bonaccorsi and Italy-based musician Dario Baldo. Both musicians will perform a synchronized music performance virtually.

Bonaccorsi and Baldo said, the impact of COVID-19 has become a global collective memory of the world. However, using technology to connect the images of Taiwan and Italy allows the audience to get a glimpse of the true face of society and the emotions that are triggered in life.

NTMoFA Director Liang Yung-fei (梁永斐) stated that this exhibition combines images, music, and other different media. On one hand, it demonstrates the future of cross-border cooperation in the arts and an innovative form that is not restricted by time and space. On the other hand, it enhances the mutual understanding through daily life's similarities, differences, and characteristics of the two countries.
