Taiwan's VR works to debut at Fringe Focus Taiwan in Australia

The second edition of the "Fringe Focus Taiwan (聚焦臺灣)"-jointly organized by the Cultural Division of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Center in Sydney and the Melbourne Fringe Festival-will present five Taiwanese VR works and a new video at the famous music and screening venue, Loop Project Space and Bar, in the heart of Melbourne, Australia from Nov. 15 to 20. The organizer announced that the free booking for the Fringe Focus Taiwan started on Oct. 29.

Among the featured works, four VR works produced by the Kaohsiung VR FILM LAB include "In The Mist (霧中)," "Offing (人之島後)," "Afterimage for Tomorrow (留給未來的殘影)," and "A Song Within Us (Oli邊境)." Another VR work, "Mechanical Souls (囍宴機器人)," is the first Taiwan-French multinational collaborative work. The above-mentioned films will make their debut in Australia. Moreover, the video work "IT-ME: TIME Traveller Beta2021 (超時空人魚傳說)" will make its world premiere at the event.

Directed by the acclaimed theatre and new media director Chou Tung-Yen (周東彥), "In The Mist" reveals the unspeakable life experience of the gay community culture, exploring a male sauna through poetic lenses to take a peek into something that is hidden under the desire—the love without love (無愛之愛).

The Melbourne Fringe Festival is one of the oldest and most popular cultural events in Melbourne, the cultural capital of Australia. It is also the first Australian art festival to curate with the theme of "Taiwan" in collaboration with MOC.
