In a collaboration between the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Thailand and Thailand's Documentary Club, the fourth edition of the annual Taiwan Documentary Film Festival in Thailand will be held from Dec. 15 through 31.
This year's festival will be a combination of physical and virtual events, for Thai audiences to better appreciate the diversity and vitality of Taiwanese films. The main event will take place at House Samyan Cinema in the heart of Bangkok from Dec. 15 to 19, screenings in Phayao and Hatyai will take place from Dec. 17 to 19, whereas the online screenings will run from Dec. 16 to 31.
Taiwan's lineup for the film festival includes 10 features and 3 shorts programs, with the 4K restoration of director Hou Hsiao-hsien's (侯孝賢) 1998 film "Flowers of Shanghai (海上花)" to serve as the opening film of the event on Dec. 15. The 113-minute classic Taiwanese film was the winner of the Jury Grand Prize and Best Art Direction at the 35th Golden Horse Awards and was selected as part of the official competition section of the Cannes Film Festival.
In addition to the opening film, the film screenings include "Days (日子)" directed by Tsai Ming-liang (蔡明亮); "Hard Good Life I (雜菜記)" and "Hard Good Life II (黑晝記)"directed by Hsu Hui-ju (許慧如); "A Lean Soul (削瘦的靈魂)," a documentary that delves into the works and life of Taiwanese writer Qi Deng-sheng (七等生); "The Lucky Woman (逃跑的人)," "Taste of Wild Tomato (野番茄)," "Mickey on the Road (迷走廣州)," "The Bad Man (惡人之煞)," and others.
