The Taipei Cultural Center in Tokyo collaborates with the Mori Art Museum (MAM) to host the exhibition titled “The Dawn of Taiwanese Video Art in the 1980s-1990s (臺灣錄像藝術創世紀)” from Apr. 24 to Sept. 1. This exhibition invites both artists and the public to explore the rich history Taiwan’s video art.

Established in 2003, MAM strives to be a place for enjoyment, stimulation, and discussion. It engages an audience ranging from young school children to students and senior citizens, from people living in the local community to the whole region and around the world.

This exhibition focuses on the activities of Taiwanese pioneers who created works of art using the latest video technology in the 1980s and 1990s, featuring ten artists including Hung Su-chen (洪素珍), Yuan Goang-ming (袁廣鳴), Wang Jun-jieh (王俊傑), Chen Cheng-tsai (陳正才), and Lin Chun-chi (林俊吉). To highlight the diversity of Taiwanese video art, the program includes works with social messages and references to mass media as well as those incorporating experimental video techniques and documenting performance.
