The works of four indigenous artists from Taiwan - Lafin Sawmah, Eleng Luluan, Akac Orat, and Malay Makakazuwan - are being exhibited at the Govett-Brewster Art Gallery in New Zealand in an exhibition titled “Without Centre, Without Limits,” running until Oct. 13.
The Cultural Division of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Sydney, Australia, initiated a collaboration with the Govett-Brewster Art Gallery last year, inviting the four artists to participate in an art residency project in New Zealand and engage with local institutions as well as Maori artists.
At the opening ceremony, Joanne Ou (歐江安), the Taipei Representative to New Zealand, praised the four Taiwanese artists for their efforts in promoting Taiwan’s indigenous culture and breaking cultural and geographical boundaries through their creations. She said that this exhibition symbolizes the common ground in tribal culture and beliefs, along with the pursuit of liberty.
