The Cultural Division of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Malaysia, in collaboration with the Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre (KLPAC) and the George Town Festival (GTF) in Penang, has jointly invited Taiwan’s national Peking opera troupe GuoGuang Opera Company (國光劇團) to premiere “Jingju Magic – Love & Bewilderment (魔幻京劇)” from July 12 to 21 in the two Malaysian cities.
At KLPAC, GuoGuang Opera Company will present two double bills, featuring “Zhuangzi Tests His Wife (試妻劈棺)” and “Lu Wenlong (雙槍陸文龍)” on July 12 and 13, followed by “The Death of Zhou Yu (周瑜歸天)” and “Guiying’s Accusation of Wang Kuei at the Temple (打神告廟)” on July 14. On July 20 and 21, GuoGuang Opera Company will stage “Avenging Zidu (伐子都)” and “Zhuangzi Tests His Wife.” “Avenging Zidu” has been dubbed as the Eastern “Macbeth” due to its exceptional performances.
