The Cultural Division of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Malaysia, the Taiwan Film and Audiovisual Institute, and the Singapore Asian Film Archive (AFA) are collaborating to present “Retrospective: Edward Yang (楊德昌回顧展)” at Oldham Theatre, Singapore, beginning Nov. 1.
The event will feature screenings of Edward Yang’s films from Nov. 1 to 24 and an accompanying exhibition running from Nov. 1 to Dec. 29. The screening program includes Yang’s entire filmography, such as “A Brighter Summer Day (牯嶺街少年殺人事件),” “Yi Yi: A One and a Two (一一),” along with his television series “Floating Weeds (浮萍)” and his unfinished animated project “The Wind (追風).”
In addition, film scholar Wang Chun-chi (王君琦) and writer Chen Te-cheng (陳德政) have been invited to offer insights into Edward Yang’s work in Singapore. Wang will give a talk titled “Edward Yang: The Art of Crossroads,” while Chen will discuss “Urban Nostalgia: Revisiting Pop Songs in Edward Yang’s Films.”
