At the invitation of the George Town Literary Festival (GTLF), poet Sen Kim Soon (辛金順) will share his creative process of writing poetry and prose, as well as start a dialogue with Southeast Asian writers on how language breaks barriers. He is also invited to speak at the Department of Chinese Studies at the University of Malaya (UM) on Dec. 3.
In addition to discussing the development of poetry and prose in Malaysia with writers Fang Lu (方路) and Ong Yuen Kuan (翁菀君) on Nov. 26, Sen will also discuss the role of language and how it crosses borders with Sabahan author Rubaini Matadrin, and Thai poet, S.E.A Write Award-winner Zakariya Amataya.
Co-organized by the Department of Chinese Studies at the UM, Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Malaysia, and Sin Chew Daily, Sen will give a lecture on topographical literature on Dec. 3. He will share his journey as a writer-in-residence in cities and townships across Taiwan, explore how the integration of literature and place would influence one's life experience and the purpose in writing.
Sen has won numerous literary awards including the China Times Award in Modern Poetry, Singapore Literature Prize, Shih-Chiu Liang Literature Award, and more. He has also published 15 poems, 7 prose poems, and various research papers.
