GACC collabs with Paper Windmill Theatre to bring performances to Budapest

On the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the founding of Budapest, the General Association of Chinese Culture (GACC) joins hands for the first time with the Paper Windmill Theatre (紙風車劇團) to hold a series of activities under the theme "Taiwan to Europe—Culture Touring!" from June 16 to 21, in an effort to deepen cultural exchanges between Taiwan and Europe as well as show support for the Ukrainian refugees in the Hungarian capital.

Announcing the event on its Facebook page, GACC shared that at the invitation of the Budapest City Government, they will be bringing diverse cultural activities and performances to a wider audience in Europe such as children’s theater, street arts, and experiences of Taiwanese culture. It added that this tour has been made possible through the efforts and support of many people.

To express Taiwan’s concern for the war in Ukraine and its stance on maintaining peace, the upcoming cultural tour will also include exchanges with Ukrainian refugees and children. GACC hopes that the healing power of art will have a positive impact on their emotions and well-being; and at the same time, allow the Ukrainian people to develop a better understanding of Taiwan.

Founded in 1992, the Paper Windmill Theatre is a Taiwanese group that produces shows for children. Their productions take on various forms, spanning stage plays, musicals, mime shows, puppetry, and black light theater. For over three decades, the group has brought happiness to children across Taiwan with their lively performances. Theater director Lee Yung-feng (李永豐) founded the troupe with several notable film and television professionals in Taiwan, with a collective vision of fulfilling a dream of doing something for Taiwan in terms of theater and children.
