Taiwanese illustrator Yu Chia-chi’s solo exhibition in Italy

Taiwanese illustrator Yu Chia-chi’s (達姆) solo exhibition opens now in “Make in South – Catania”, a cultural festival in Sicily. As a part of the “TATO_Taiwan on Tour” program, she was invited by the Culture Division of Taiwan’s Representative Office (TRO) in Italy to join the festival.

This event displays Yu’s 10 years of hard work as an illustrator, with a total of 25 pieces of illustrations. The event manager Claudia Cosentino said that as islands, Taiwan and Sicily have always been aspiring to go global by going local. By succeeding Page Tsou’s (鄒駿昇) solo exhibition in 2021 with Yu’s show, they wish to deepen the cultural ties between Taiwan and Italy.

Taiwan’s Representative in Italy Tsai Yun-chung (蔡允中) expressed appreciation towards Yu’s illustrations, for they presented Taiwan’s energetic aesthetics vividly. He added that in order to further elevate the connection between the two countries, they will continue to bring artistic talents from Taiwan abroad.

Yu felt honored to be invited for her first solo exhibition in Italy. Most of her displays in this exhibition are illustrations for literature. She said that such pieces are her favorite due to the creative space that allows for flowing images. As a result, pieces that were surreal and beyond imagination could be brought to life.

The Culture Division of the TRO in Italy stated that Sicily is an island rich with creative energy and full of artistic potential. Through this event, they look forward to generating more interaction and exchange between artists and cultural workers from Taiwan and Italy. The final stop of “TATO_Taiwan on Tour” will be on the Book Pride Genova 2023 from Oct. 6 to Oct. 8.
