Formosan beauty, crafts at Berlin bazaar

The beauty of Taiwanese craftsmanship will be displayed at Bazaar Berlin, an international consumer exhibition for handicrafts, jewelry, textiles, and home accessories, from Nov. 18 to 22.

Touted as an exotic cultural marketplace where different communities come together and interact, Bazaar Berlin will host a Taiwan pavilion themed "Ilha Formosa” - the name bestowed by Portuguese seafarers in the sixteenth century for a beautiful island the size of Baden-Württemberg.

The featured Taiwanese artisans will include porcelain artists Lin Lung-chieh (林龍杰), Lin Sung-pen (林松本), Liu Wu (劉武), and Zeng Siang-syuan (曾祥軒); painter Yi Yu-an (易佑安); metalsmith Huang Shu-ping (黃淑萍); bamboo paper artist Tsai Erh-jung (蔡爾容); and textile bag maker Chan Yuk-heung (陳玉香).

The National Taiwan Craft Research and Development Institute (NTCRI) will also organize five consecutive days of workshops offering live demonstrations and experimental sessions at the Taiwan pavilion.

Visitors keen on discovering Taiwan's cultural treasures should on no account miss Bazaar Berlin 2015.
