Taiwanese indigenous children's choir, VOX Nativa (原聲童聲合唱團), will perform live in several historic Berlin complexes this September.
Collaborating with German elementary school Bettina-von-Arnim, VOX Nativa will first hold a Sept. 6 concert alongside two of the school's choirs ― Bettina-von-Arnim-Chor and Cum Gaudio ― in the 700-seat Berlin-Reinickendorf City Hall.
VOX Nativa then plans to hold a spontaneous performance in front of up to 500 tourists at the grand hall of the German Historical Museum, a national museum in Berlin that receives international visitors from around the world.
Moreover, members of the indigenous choir will be staying with 29 local families through a German homestay program. The organizers hope that such cultural exchanges ― from individual interactions to public performances ― will forge closer ties and friendships among the people of Taiwan and Germany.
VOX Nativa hails from Taiwan's tallest peak, Jade Mountain. The nonprofit music school was founded in 2008 to help boost the morale and visibility of those living 3,952 meters above sea level. As children between the age of 9 and 13 who come from disadvantaged families, these young singers are only awarded the opportunity to join the choir if they first excel academically.
