Geneva film festival to present Taiwanese Freeze Frames section

The 25th Black Movie International Independent Film Festival will take place from Jan. 19 to 28 in Geneva, Switzerland. It will feature the Taiwanese Freeze Frames section, showing 15 Taiwanese films with a highlight on director Tsai Ming-liang’s (蔡明亮) works. 

 

The Black Movie International Independent Film Festival was inaugurated in 1991. It established itself as a film festival that promotes art films from Africa, Asia, Latin America, and Europe. It emphasizes multiculturalism through films and is devoted to being an advocator of non-western and independent films. 

 

The Taiwanese Freeze Frames section will present a selective retrospective of six of Tsai Ming-liang’s films, Taiwanese wuxia films, and family-themed productions. Besides, an art exhibition showcasing Tsai’s “Walker (行者)” series will also held at at Le Commun, the City of Geneva’s cultural space. 

 

A masterclass in Tsai’s presence will take place on Jan. 20, sharing his thoughts on filmmaking. For more information, please visit the film festival’s official website.
