A special “Taipei – Taiwan” film screening event is being featured at the Travelling Film Festival in Rennes, France, which takes place from Feb. 20 to 27. In this event, 73 Taiwanese films are being showcased in more than 20 cinemas in the city of Rennes and Brittany region.

As it enters its 35th anniversary, the Travelling Film Festival is held annually in Rennes to transport the audience to a new country or city through films. This year, Taiwan was invited as the highlighted country to showcase Taiwanese cities and culture through a series of activities, including the “Taipei in Cinema” screening session as well as the seminars focusing on six Taiwanese directors: Hou Hsiao-hsien (侯孝賢), Edward Yang (楊德昌), Tsai Ming-liang (蔡明亮), Singing Chen (陳芯宜), Midi Z (趙德胤), and Lee Mi-mi (李美彌).

Director Hu Ching-fang (胡晴舫) of the Taiwan Cultural Center in Paris said that the Travelling Film Festival’s rich content reflects the creativity of the Taiwanese filmmakers of each generation, as well as the results of the Taiwan-France film exchange over the years. She emphasized that this festival broadens its reach by including participation from local schools and institutions, thereby fostering a robust film culture among all walks of life.
