Taiwan-Switzerland theatrical co-production performed in Festival Programme Commun, Switzerland

Supported by the Ministry of Culture, the theater show “This Is Not an Embassy (這不是個大使館)” is co-produced by the National Theater and Concert Hall and Théâtre Vidy-Lausanne. It is taking place at the Festival Programme Commun in Lausanne, Switzerland, from Mar. 14 to 24.

Directed by Stefan Kaegi of the Rimini Protokoll theater group, “This Is Not an Embassy” features three Taiwanese people—a retired diplomat, a digital activist, and a musician who is also an heiress to a bubble tea company—to compose an ephemeral and theatrical dream embassy of Taiwan with simulations and video projections, an implication that Taiwan is not officially recognized as a state. According to Kaegi, “This piece is an attempt to simulate the establishment of an impossible embassy.”

Established in 2000, the Rimini Protokoll theater group specializes in “diplomatic theater.” They excel in exploring themes of international diplomatic exchanges by recreating pivotal moments and decision-making processes that have impacted the global landscape on stage.
