Taiwanese artist Liu Yu selected for Apolan Residency Program in France

Taiwanese contemporary artist Liu Yu (劉玗) was selected for the first Apolan Residency Program offered by the Fondation Fiminco, a French art institution. She will embark on a journey to Romainville, France, from Sept. 15, 2024, to Jan. 15, 2025, to sharpen her crafts and engage with the international art community.

The Apolan Residency Program targets Taiwanese artists specializing in new media and digital art. This edition received a total of 53 submissions, reflecting the maturity and diversity of Taiwan’s art scene. The judging panel remarked that Liu Yu stood out because of her concrete creative ideas, which promise to enhance the Taiwan-France art exchange.

In 2019, Liu Yu began researching Western biological literature and graphical data to understand how visuals affect the formation of narratives. During the residency program, she will commence a new art project titled “Anthropomorpho,” further enriching her findings through fieldwork in the Greater Paris area.
