Festival Off Avignon to feature Taiwan as first guest of honor country

The renowned Festival Off Avignon has announced the inclusion of a guest of honor country for the first time, inviting Taiwan to showcase its vibrant arts and culture to the world from July 3 to 21.

The Avignon Festival, founded in 1947, is an annual arts festival held in Avignon, France. It is divided into the official shows – the “In” festival, and the independent performances – the “Off” festival. This year, the Festival Off Avignon will feature 1,316 performing groups, including 147 international art teams, delivering 24,664 performances during the 19-day event.

Since 2007, the Ministry of Culture has selected performing art groups to participate in the Festival Off Avignon annually, making it an important platform to showcase Taiwan’s arts and culture to the international audience. The selected groups this year include Resident Island Dance Theatre (滯留島舞蹈劇場), Shinehouse Theatre (曉劇場), Chun Dance (君舞蹈劇場), and Eye Catching Circus (創造焦點).
