Authors’ Reading Month in Czech Republic and Slovakia to highlight Taiwan literature

Authors’ Reading Month (ARM), a literary festival set to open from July 1 to Aug. 3 in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, will feature Taiwan as the guest of honor this year. The festival will bring 31 Taiwanese writers to showcase Taiwanese literature in the cities of Brno, Ostrava, Bratislava, Košice, and Prešov in the two European countries.

This year marks the 25th anniversary of ARM and the first time an Asian country is featured as the guest of honor. Větrné mlýny, a Czech publishing house and the event’s organizer, said that although Taiwan’s issues are frequently discussed by the Czech people, they are not well-acquainted with Taiwanese literature. Furthermore, due to the similarities in the history and geopolitical situations of Taiwan and Czechia , they decided to focus on Taiwan this year.

Featured Taiwanese writers include Li Ang (李昂), Liglav Awu, Xiang Yang (向陽), Ping Lu (平路), Kevin Chen (陳思宏), Tsao Yu-po (曹馭博), and many more.
