Supported by the Cultural Division of the Taipei Representative Office in the U.K, the London independent cinema Garden Cinema will host the “Taiwanese Cinema: Now and Then” season from Sept. 5 to Oct. 3, showcasing the best of classic and contemporary filmmaking from the country.
This event will present a diverse selection of Taiwanese films, including works by renowned director Tsai Ming-liang (蔡明亮) and actor Lee Kang-sheng’s (李康生), such as “Days (日子),” “The River (河流),” and “Where (何處),” the 9th entry in Tsai’s ongoing moving image series, “The Walker (行者).”
The event will also highlight the great Hou Hsiao-hsien (侯孝賢), featuring his films like “Millennium Mambo (千禧曼波),” “Three Times (最好的時光),” and “The Assassin (刺客聶隱娘).”
The classic wuxia epic “A Touch of Zen (俠女)” by King Hu, contemporary satire “The Great Buddha+ (大佛普拉斯)” by Huang Hsin-yao (黃信堯), documentary “A Holy Family (神人之家)” by Elvis Lu (盧盈良), and coming-of-age story “American Girl (美國女孩)” by Fiona Roan (阮鳳儀) are also included in the selection.
