Supported by the Ministry of Culture and the Cultural Division of the Taipei Representative Office in Germany, the Impression Taiwan e.V. will host the 7th Taiwan Film Festival Berlin (TFFB) from Oct. 8 to 13 at Moviemento in Berlin. This year’s theme is “On The Edge.”
The TFFB is one of the largest Asian film festivals in Europe, which focuses on promoting Taiwanese films and fostering cultural exchanges between Taiwan and Germany. Organized by Impression Taiwan e.V. since 2017, the curation team has been working on this annual festival for six consecutive years, reinforcing and refreshing the ideas of diversity in Taiwanese films for the audience in Germany.
Through diverse narrative perspectives, the TFFB explores the life stories of people from different social classes and environments within the context of “labor/economic development” in capitalist societies. “On The Edge” aims to spark those what have been ignored, deeper conversations and reflections. At the same time, the festival serves to offer a warning amid the rising global wave of far-right ideologies.
The opening night will feature “And Miles to Go Before I Sleep (九槍),” winner of the 2022 Golden Horse Awards for Best Documentary Feature, directed by Tsai Tsung-lung (蔡崇隆). The film explores the difficulties faced by Taiwan’s immigrant workers.
