Taiwanese artist Huang Po-chih solo exhibition launched in London

Supported by the Ministry of Culture and the RC Culture and Arts Foundation from Taiwan, the Hayward Gallery of the Southbank Center in London launched the exhibition “Huang Po-Chih: Waves (黃博志:物流Waves)” at its HENI Project Space on Oct. 8. The exhibition explores the social and political impact of globalization on East Asia’s textile industry.

The exhibition is Taiwanese artist Huang Po-chih’s first solo exhibition in the U.K. Drawing upon his mother’s experience as a garment worker, Huang has gathered the personal narratives of individuals involved in the textile industry across China, Hong Kong, South Korea, and Taiwan, as well as stories and anecdotes from the 1960s to the present day that took place against a backdrop of migration and trade. Furthermore, Huang addresses the role that his own artistic production plays within this system of global capitalism.

Since its establishment in 2007, the Hayward Gallery’s HENI Project Space has introduced promising yet underappreciated artists to the U.K., serving as a platform to showcase exceptional artworks from around the world.

The exhibition is running until Jan. 5, 2025. For more information, visit the Southbank Center’s website
