The Norwegian Film Institute (NFI) launched the “Taiwanese Wave” screening event on Oct. 29, featuring films by renowned Taiwanese directors, including Hou Hsiao-hsien (侯孝賢), Edward Yang (楊德昌), and Tsai Ming-liang (蔡明亮), across six cities in Norway.
Notably, this event marks the Norwegian premiere of several classic Taiwanese films, such as “Growing Up (小畢的故事),” “Kuei-mei, a Woman (我這樣過了一生),” “In Our Time (光陰的故事),” and “The Sandwich Man (兒子的大玩偶).”
The opening night presented “Taipei Story (青梅竹馬)” by the late director Edward Yang, which played to a full house and received an enthusiastic response.
Chen Pin-chuan (陳斌全), Director of the Cultural Division at the Taipei Representative Office in the U.K., noted that the division aims to further showcase Taiwanese cultural content in Northern Europe and foster connections with local institutions to promote Taiwanese films.
“Taiwanese Wave” will run until Dec. 10. For more information, go to: www.cinemateket.no
