Supported by the Cultural Division of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Spain, LesGaiCineMad, the most important LGBT+ film festival in the Spanish-speaking world, is hosting a special series titled “Cine Queer Taiwán: Abriendo Caminos de Libertad (Queer Cinema Taiwan: Paving the Way for Freedom)”, and will present nine films of various length, showcasing Taiwan’s progressive values on liberty, democracy, and human rights.
The films featured at the festival include “The Wedding Banquet (囍宴)”; “The River (河流)”; “Spider Lilies (刺青)”; “Small Talk (日常對話)”; “Moneyboys (金錢男孩)”; “A Journey in Spring (春行)”; and “Tank Fairy (桶妝仙女)”. Additionally, the films “Who’ll Stop the Rain (青春並不溫柔)” and “Bubbling (珍珠美少年)” will be competing for the Best Film award and the Best International Short award at the festival respectively.
Miguel Lafuente, coordinator of LesGaiCineMad, noted that Taiwan, a beacon of democracy in East Asia, has the most progressive LGBT+ legislation in the region and provides a liberal environment for queer filmmakers to create unconventional movies.
In addition to the screenings, Huang Hui-chen (黃惠偵), director of “Small Talk”, and Su I-hsuan (蘇奕瑄), director of “Who’ll Stop the Rain”, have also been invited to attend director talks at the festival.
The event is taking place from Nov. 13 to 24. For more information, visit LesGaiCineMad’s official webpage.
