Selected by the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts (NTMoFA), the National Cheng Kung University (成功大學) Architecture Departments project, “NON-Belief: Taiwan Intelligens of Precarity ([無]-信仰),” will represent Taiwan at the 19th Venice Architecture Biennale, which will take place from May 10 to Nov. 23, 2025.
Curated by Hsueh Cheng-lun (薛丞倫), with co-curators Wu Ping-sheng (吳秉聲), Su Meng-tsun (蘇孟宗), and Leo Chiang Sung-chang (江松長), the project explores the role of intelligens in contemporary architecture and environment, reviewing Taiwan’s spatial strategies in the context of globalization and shifting geopolitical backgrounds.
Ahead of the International Architecture Exhibition this May, the curation team has unveiled a miniaturized mock-up of its design for the Taiwan Pavilion at a press conference held on Jan. 21 at National Cheng Kung University.
NTMoFA Director Chen Kuang-yi (陳貺怡) remarked that the NTMoFA has chosen Taiwan’s curation team for the Taiwan Pavilion at the Venice Biennale of Architecture since 2000 to showcase outstanding Taiwanese architecture projects in Italy. She noted that this event serves not only as a platform to display Taiwan’s architectural expertise but also as an opportunity to engage in meaningful dialogue with the international community.
This year, the Biennale’s theme, “Intelligens. Natural. Artificial. Collective.,” proposed by curator Carlo Ratti, discusses different kinds of intelligence. In response, Taiwan’s design examines how Taiwan seeks to recognize and construct the gray area between Belief and NON-Belief, engaging in a unique dialectic that reflects its resilience and adaptability.
