Jao Chia-en selected for Apolan Residency program in France

The Taiwan Cultural Center in Paris, in collaboration with the Foundation Fiminco, hosts the Apolan Residency Program for Taiwanese artists. On Mar. 20, they announced that Jao Chia-en (饒加恩) has been selected this year. Jao is set to embark on a four-month research and creation development in France from Apr. 1 to July 30.

Jao’s project-based practice stretches across different mediums, delving into colonial histories and cross-cultural tensions in the Asia Pacific region. His works have been showcased at several international art institutions, including the Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, and the National Museum of Art, Osaka.

During the residency, Jao will create a piece inspired by musical scores from 1850 to 1950 in Paris, exploring the cultural and artistic significance of sheet music within a capitalist economic framework.

Hu Ching-fang (胡晴舫), director of the Taiwan Cultural Center in Paris, noted that the Foundation Fiminco has the potential to become an iconic artistic hub in Europe. She expressed her belief that the residency program will aid the artist in further developing his career and expanding his international reach.
