London art gallery hosts Taiwan toy designer Shon Chen solo exhibition

The Alter Space, an art gallery in London, the U.K., is currently hosting Taiwanese toy designer Shon Chen’s (陳韋宏) solo exhibition “Self Reflection (自我反思),” running through Apr. 13.

Bede Ngan (顏逸聰), manager at The Alter Space, highlighted that Chen’s vibrant and playful creations have been well received across Asia. With the gallery located near popular destinations such as Brick Lane and Whitechapel, Ngan noted that the exhibition aims to attract visitors to London to experience the artworks while exploring the local area.

Chen shared that he hopes to convey messages of “care” and “joy” through his toy designs. The exhibition features Lucas and Nick, fictional characters he created to tell a story of companionship, separation, and growth—symbolizing a gentle farewell to childhood and fantasy.

In recent years, Chen has participated in several international exhibitions. His paintings have been showcased in Thailand, Hong Kong, and the U.S., while his toys have been featured in Japan, Shanghai, Beijing, and Singapore. He expressed his encouragement to fellow Taiwanese artists and designers, urging them to pursue their dreams and share their creative spirit with the world.
