Taiwan Pavilion opens at the 19th Venice Architecture Biennale

The Taiwan Pavilion at the 19th Venice Architecture Biennale opened on May 8 under the theme “NON-Belief: Taiwan Intelligens of Precarity (【無】信仰:漂蕩世界的台灣智慧),” highlighting Taiwan’s resilience and creativity in the face of natural disasters and geopolitical challenges.

Organized by the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts (NTMoFA) and curated by the Architecture Department of National Cheng Kung University (國立成功大學), the opening ceremony drew international reporters and curatorial teams from France, Japan, Lithuania, Singapore, Thailand, Hong Kong, and Austria.

Deputy Minister of Culture Lee Ching-hwi (李靜慧) noted Taiwan’s longstanding participation in the Biennale through collateral events. She also highlighted the ministry’s commitment to launch the Taiwan Architectural Culture Center in 2026, which will be the first national institution dedicated to architectural research, curation, and exhibition in Taiwan.

Y. C. Tsai (蔡允中), Taiwan Representative to Italy, emphasized the Biennale as a significant cultural event for the Representative Office, underscoring the importance of global collaboration through culture.

The Pavilion centers on a core installation, a “technological island” featuring E-Ink displays that portray Taiwan’s landscapes, symbolizing the impact of technological development on the island’s culture and nature.

The Taiwan Pavilion runs through Nov. 23 at the Palazzo delle Prigioni in Venice, Italy.
