The Cultural Division of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) in Spain, in collaboration with the Filmoteca de Catalunya, will present “A Retrospective on Director Tsai Ming-liang” in Barcelona from June 4 to July 5. The program will feature 16 of Tsai’s films, including “Days (日子),” “Rebels of the Neon God (青少年哪吒),” “Stray Dogs (郊遊),” “Face (臉),” and more.
Tsai expressed his honor in having the opportunity to present his works spanning over three decades, encompassing many of his feature films and short films from various periods of his career. Accompanied by actors Lee Kang-sheng (李康生) and Anong Houngheuangsy, the director will travel to Barcelona to engage with Spanish audiences and film enthusiasts.
In addition, TECO in Spain will co-host three events with local institutions: a lecture at the Filmoteca de Catalunya on June 5, another at the Escuela de Cine de Barcelona on June 6, and a screening followed by a talk at the Fundació Joan Miró on June 8.
The Cultural Division of TECO in Spain noted that following its first collaboration with the Filmoteca de Catalunya in 2023—presenting a film exhibition dedicated to the renowned director Edward Yang—this retrospective continues its efforts to highlight representative Taiwanese directors and their works in Europe, while fostering partnerships with local arts and cultural organizations.
