To encourage Taiwanese artists to broaden their creative vision and enrich their international experience, the Cultural Division of the Taipei Representative Office (TRO) in the U.K. has been collaborating with the Delfina Foundation since 2020 to host a residency program for Taiwanese artists in London. This year, Esther Lu (呂岱如) was selected from among 113 submissions and will participate in the program from June 23 to Sept. 14.
Esther Lu’s curatorial practice explores how to build resilience toward collective metabolic recovery through engagement with both humans and the more-than-human world. Her work is rooted in collaboration, transdisciplinary research, and alternative learning; cultivating art as a medium for care, exchange, and transformative experiences in everyday life.
In 2021, she founded the curatorial initiative Moss Piglets, focusing on future ecology through public learning programs, workshops, and exhibitions.
During this Delfina residency, Esther will explore her research on queer eco-feminist projects in the U.K., and learn more about sustainable, reciprocal urban eco-projects in collaboration with local artists and researchers.
The Cultural Division of the TRO in the U.K. noted that it looks forward to leveraging the Delfina Foundation’s extensive professional network across Europe to support the participating artist in initiating diverse dialogues with the contemporary art community, expanding their international connections that can lead to innovative curatorial ideas and materials.
