The 57th Lucca Comics & Games Festival is open from Nov. 1 to Nov. 5, featuring Taiwanese comic artists Rimui (韋蘺若明), Aliyo (艾莉柚), Animo Chen (阿尼默), and Evergreen Yeh (葉長青). Various activities such as the opening show, book signing, and seminars are organized in the Taiwan exhibition area, aiming to boost international interactions.
Established in 1966, the Lucca Comics & Games is the largest and oldest comic convention in Europe. This year, the Cultural Division of the Taipei Representative Office in Italy managed to exhibit 30 outstanding Taiwanese comics from 18 publishers.
The Cultural Division said that since last year, they participated in the festival as a country representative, building the brand of Taiwanese comics and attracting Italian publishers as well as readers through promotional events and online exhibitions. They will continue to support the comic industry by broadening the international readership, they added.
Based on the theme of “Gods in Taiwanese Comics”, this exhibition showcases a number of recent works that have the elements of religious beliefs and deities, such as “The Funeral Concerto (送葬協奏曲)” by Rimui and “Legend of the Cat Demon (貓妖傳)” by Aliyo. Furthermore, it also displays exceptional original comics from the Golden Comic Awards winners and Books from Taiwan selections.
Besides, Animo Chen and Evergreen Yeh were also invited by Italian publishing houses, Add Editore and IF Edizioni respectively, to promote their works at the festival. Chen’s comic collection “Una Breve Elegia (小輓)” and Yeh’s “Mayfly Island (蜉遊之島)” were translated and published in Italian earlier this year.
