Two Taiwanese troupes — Les Petites Choses Production (小事製作) and HORSE Dance Theatre (驫舞劇場) — will bring their inclusive dance projects and distinctive physical language to One Dance Week 2019 running in Bulgaria from Sept. 20 through Oct. 19.
Founded in 2014 with an emphasis on social communication and performing arts education, Les Petites Choses Production (LPCP) works with artists from various fields to jointly create inspiring dance pieces and videos. For the troupe's Sept. 28-29 showcase in Bulgaria, LPCP will bring its subscription crowd-fund project from 2015 — "Monday School."
"Monday School" strives to follow the spirit of "art is for everyone" and become an Asian platform for cross-cultural exchange. As an educational and social empowerment project, it introduces a novel interaction model for audience members and participating dance artists, having gone through more than 70 iterations involving different generations.
HORSE is a dance collective that has established a distinctive profile with delicate physical movements and unrestricted creativity. Since its establishment in 2004, the company has been working towards becoming a platform for artistic collaboration between Taiwan choreographers and foreign dance artists. Its acclaimed repertoire "FreeSteps – Body Scenes" will be staged on Oct. 3 in Bulgaria.
"FreeSteps" is a ten-year project exploring the most primitive status of dance by peeling off various layers of bodily characteristics and textures. Choreography can be simply and persistently about the human body, in which collaborators jointly work to shape, massage, and sculpture movements and physicality.
A spin-off project titled "FreeSteps – NiNi" that was created on the sixth year of the FreeSteps project will be performed at One Dance Week 2019 on Oct. 4. The performer will reveal a dance free of fixed imagination, expectations, and assumptions, using instead surrounding elements like landscapes and spectators as materials for improvisation.
