The Centre culturel de Taiwan à Paris is showcasing the beauty of Taiwanese way of life through the eyes of esteemed German theater director Lukas Hemleb (盧卡斯.漢柏) in a series of 12 photo videos throughout September.

Acclaimed German theater director Lukas Hemleb assembled a mass collection of photographs taken during his time in Taiwan from 2005 through 2019, while working with the art theater community in Taiwan.

His mass collection has been made into a series of 12 mirioramas, and the photo videos are exhibited on the Centre culturel de Taiwan a Paris official facebook page. Titled from Taiwan’s country code "886 – Taiwan as seen by Lukas Hemleb," the themes for each video comprise of city life, high-speed rail, street life, cement, righteousness, transportation, arrival, food, rainy days, hand gestures, land, and ocean.

Based in France, Hemleb has closely collaborated with Taiwan theater troupes on works that incorporate traditional performing arts such as Taiwanese opera. The first of these was the 2006 show "The Luo River Goddess (洛神賦)" with New Taipei City-based Han-Tang Yuefu Music Ensemble (漢唐樂府). In 2008 he created a contemporary opera with Taiwanese composer Gordon Chin (金希文) at the National Theatre in Taipei. In 2010, he created "Feather (羽)," a contemporary opera with Nanguan music, with Taiwanese artist Wang Xin-xin (王心心). To further understand East Asian culture and thought, Hemleb began to study Mandarin, and continued to work with the Taiwanese art theater community.

He is currently working on the scenic adaptation of "L'Homme to Eyes to facets (The Man with the Compound Eyes)," a novel by Taiwanese author Wu Ming-yi (吳明益). The modern opera adaptation will premiere in March 2021 with a planned tour around Taiwan and in France later the same year.
