Sculptural sound installation by Taiwanese artist Lin Yen-chun presented in London

With support from the Ministry of Culture, Taiwanese artist Lin Yen-chun (林彥君) initiates an artist-led research project "Here, a nut falls twice," showcasing a newly commissioned sculptural sound installation and performance at the theatre of the Institute of Contemporary Arts (ICA) in the UK. The project was activated by an opening sound performance "Absence here" by Lin and artist Lou Drago on Nov. 27.

In addition, the program also includes an overnight event titled "Drift(in)between" from Dec. 3 to 4. "Drift(in)between" will last eight hours, featuring live performances by 10 artists: Lin Yen-chun, Lou Drago, Marijn Degenaar, Cee Füllemann, Hung Tzu-ni (洪梓倪), Lithic Alliance, Oxi Peng, Felix Riemann, Berglind Thrastardottir, and Matilda Tjäder, with lighting by Charlie Hope. During the period, the event will include sound works featuring inaudible frequencies, sleep-inducing rhythms, dream echoes, lullabies of nightmares, shimmers of darkness, nocturnal wanders, and bedtime tales. Audiences are invited to spend the night in the installation that explores the liminality of "falling," through light, darkness, sound, poetry and memories, as they relate to the altered states of sleeping, loving, and sensing.

Born in 1990, Lin Yen-chun graduated from MFA in Fine Art at Goldsmiths College, University in London, and was the recipient of the Taipei Art Award grand prize (2021), and artist-in-residence at Rupert in Vilnius (2022). Lin's works are materialized in the form of installations, hosting sculptural soundscapes, performances, collaborations, and speculative sciences. Lin currently lives and works among states of falling, falling asleep, falling awake, falling with(in) love, and falling (into) unknown.

Founded in 1947, ICA is London’s leading space for contemporary culture. It commissions, produces and presents new work in film, music, performance and the visual arts by today's most progressive artists.
