The 2023 Tribeca Film Festival is set to kick off this month in New York City. The Festival will present 13 innovative extended reality (XR) projects from around the world. "Over the Rainbow" and "Colored," two Taiwanese XR works, have been selected for the New Voices Competition. The New Voices Award will be awarded to a first or second-time XR creator that brings fresh perspectives and artistic languages to immersive storytelling. Taiwanese VR works have now been selected for the New Voices Competition for six consecutive years.

For "Over the Rainbow," Riverbed Theater transformed their previous immersive theater play, "Just for You Project," into a virtual reality experience. "Over the Rainbow" delves into the precarious balance between desires, happiness, dreams, and familiarity. "Colored" is an international co-production between Flash Forward Entertainment from Taiwan and Novaya from France. Using AR technology, "Colored" immerses the audience in a blended virtual and real world set in the 1950s, exploring themes of racial identity and belonging. The production is supported by the Taiwan Creative Content Agency (TAICCA) Immersive Content Grant, which aims to help Taiwanese cultural and technological content brands reach an international audience.

To meet the creators of Taiwan's XR work, TAICCA has organized the Taiwan Focus Creators Talk and Reception to take place on June 9 at the Soho Grand Hotel in New York. Directors Pierre-Alain Giraud and Stéphane Foenkinos, producers Christa Chen and Emanuela Righi, and writer Tania De Montaigne from Colored, as well as director Craig Quintero and producer Su-Ling Yeh from Over the Rainbow, will share their creative concepts and processes.

Join us at the event to immerse yourself in the vibrant world of Taiwanese cultural and technological content, gain valuable insights into the future of the industry, and seize exciting networking opportunities with esteemed directors, producers, and writers from Colored and Over the Rainbow.

Tribeca Immersive will take place in New York from June 9 to 17. XR projects will be presented in different formats, depending on their technical requirements and artistic intentions. Projects will be shown in dedicated VR booths, in interactive installations, or on mobile devices.
