Taiwanese film 'After School' to debut in Toronto

The Taiwanese film “After School (成功補習班)” directed by Lan Cheng-lung (藍正龍) will premiere in the Taiwan Film Festival in Toronto (TFFT) on Jan. 21. The event will take place at the Innis Town Hall of the University of Toronto, Canada.

Based on a true story, “After School” is set in a cram school in 1994, where students’ romances are prohibited so that they can focus on their academics. However, a progressive teacher, Hsiao Chih (小志), led his students to explore their youthful friendships and relationships.

“After School” was the closing film of the Taipei Film Festival last year. It was nominated in several international film festivals such as the Tokyo International Film Festival and the Hong Kong Asian Film Festival.

The TFFT also announced that following the screening of “After School” on Jan. 21, the next film “Abang Adik (富都青年)” will be screened in the festival on Mar. 8.
