Taiwanese-American quartet to play in New York

One of the world's best contemporary quartets will offer a special performance in New York on Feb. 20 to showcase string quartet music based on Taiwanese and indigenous rhythms.


Hailed as "bold and intense, like shots of pure espresso,” Formosa Quartet is an ensemble with Taiwanese heritage. Their repertoire ranges from interpreting Mozart, Debussy, Wolf, and Schubert to incorporating Amis harvest music.


Comprising Jasmine Lin, Wayne Lee, Che-Yen Chen, and Ru-Pei Yeh of Juilliard School, Curtis Institute of Music, and New England Conservatory, Formosa Quartet received world acclaimafter winning the 10th London International String Quarter Competition.


The Taiwanese-American quartet will offer an admission-free concert at the Taiwan Academy in New York as part of the 2016 Taiwan Rising Stars: Classical Music Concerts series.
