A trio of Taiwanese musicians — violinist Hung Yin-chou (洪寅洲), cellist Pan Wan-yi (潘宛怡), and pianist Cheng I-hsuan (程伊萱) — will hold a live performance at the Taiwan Academy in Los Angeles on Aug. 1.
Together, they will be presenting several music pieces by classic composers such as Hsiao Tyzen (蕭泰然), George Frideric Handel, Johannes Brahms, and Franz Lehar.
Hsiao, who passed away earlier this year on Feb. 24, was known as "Taiwan's Rachmaninoff.” The Aug. 1 performance will include Hsiao's "The Formosa Trio (福爾摩沙三重奏),” a symphony depicting the idyllic scenes of Taiwan, and 'White Peony (白牡丹),” a folk song describing a girl's yearning for her beloved.
Additional music pieces such as "Passacaglia,” "Hungarian Dance,” and "The Merry Widow” composed by German and Austro-Hungarianmasters will also be on the playlist.
Hung and Cheng are both graduates of the Eastman School of Music while Pan received her degree from Rutgers University. After their performance at the Taiwan Academy, the trio will be representing Taiwan at the 12th Beverly Hills International Music Festival from July 31 to Aug. 10.
