Taiwanese dancers to kick up a flair in San Francisco

Horse Dance Theatre (驫舞劇場), one of the few all-male dance groups in Taiwan, will present a unique choreographed piece exploring the relationship of "two men who are most familiar with each other” at the 2015 San Francisco International Arts Festival.

Titled "2 Men,” the original production is founded upon the premise of friendship, familiarity, and the psychological fissures present in every relationship. It is scripted by Hong Kong-based theater director Edward Lam (林奕華), and features improvisational music by Taiwanese pianist Lee Shih-yang (李世揚), co-founder of world music band Ka Dao Yin (卡到音).

Founded in 2004, Horse takes it name from the Chinese character "Biao (驫),” which is shaped by stacking three "Ma (馬)” characters in the shape of a pyramid. The equine imagery represents boundless energy, unrestrained creativity, and supple physicality.

The troupe's co-founders Chen Wu-kang (陳武康) and Su Wei-chia (蘇威嘉) will perform "2 Men” at the Cowell Theater from June 4 to 6 as part of San Francisco's largest annual performing arts celebrations. Ticketing information and more can be foundhere.
