Global Taiwan Institute to screen 8 Taiwanese films online

Launched by the American think tank "Global Taiwan Institute (全球台灣研究中心)," the second edition of the Taiwanese Film Week will be presented online from Oct. 1 to 9, featuring a diverse selection of eight Taiwanese films and documentaries, as well as Q&A sessions with directors of two selected films.

The featured films include "My Missing Valentine (消失的情人節)," "Dear Tenant (親愛的房客)," "A Leg (腿)," "Sounds of Taiwan (聽見臺灣)," "Formosan Black Bear is Coming (黑熊來了)," "Chen Uen (千年一問)," "Wild Sparrow (野雀之詩)," and "Whale Island (男人與他的海)."

Moreover, online sharing sessions will be held after the screening of two films, with directors Cheng Yu-Chieh(鄭有傑) and Huang Chia-chun(黃嘉俊) participating the sessions on Oct. 4 and 9, respectively. The live-stream of this discussion will be available for viewers worldwide on Asiania and Youtube.

The romantic comedy "My Missing Valentine" directed by Chen Yu-hsun(陳玉勳) will be screened on the first day of the festival. This film was the biggest winner at the 57th Golden Horse Awards and was named winner of the 23rd edition of the Far East Film Festival for the Crystal Mulberry award and the Black Dragon Award this year.

From Oct. 2 to 6, the festival will continue to screen the ecological film "Formosan Black Bear is Coming," "Dear Tenant," which explores the family relations of same-sex couples, and "Sounds of Taiwan," the music documentary known as the most beautiful music in 400 years.

The remaining films include the dark romantic comedy "A Leg," "Chen Uen," the documentary of Taiwanese legendary manga artist, "Wild Sparrow," which depicts people's lives at the bottom of the society, and the ocean documentary "Whale Island."
