The South by Southwest Music Festival (SXSW) will be hosted from Mar. 11 to 16 in Austin, Texas, U.S., featuring six groups of Taiwanese musicians in the Taiwan Beats Showcase session on Mar. 12.
Founded in 1987, SXSW is best known for its conference and festivals that celebrate the convergence of tech, film, music, education, and culture, attracting more than three hundred thousand participants each year.
The full lineup of the Taiwan Beats Showcase includes Chih Siou (持修), The Dinosaur’s Skin (恐龍的皮), Fire EX. (滅火器), Gummy B, Majin, and Mong Tong. Fire EX. was previously invited to deliver a virtual performance in 2021.
The event organizer invited award-winning Taiwanese designer Sung Cheng-chieh (宋政傑) to design the main visual of the Taiwan Beats Showcase. Integrating Taiwan’s natural landscapes like mountains and seas, he creatively illustrated the Chinese characters of “Taiwan (台灣).”
