Folk musical from southern Taiwan to debut in US

Co-organized by the Taipei Cultural Center in New York (TCCNY), the Michigan Taiwanese American Organization, and the Pingtung County Government, the folk musical "The Chants of Motherland Sagas (半島風聲 相放伴)" is scheduled to premiere in Michigan and New York, the United States, in April, presenting authentic voices and stories from southern Taiwan.

"The Chants of Motherland Sagas" highlights Taiwanese yueqin players and portrays the stories of traditional folk song practitioners from the Hengchun Peninsula (恆春半島), the southernmost region of Taiwan, on stage.

Chang Hui-chun (張惠君), the director of TCCNY, said that this event aims to showcase Taiwan's unique folk songs to the U.S. audience. She mentioned that in addition to musical theater performances, workshops will be conducted to introduce Hengchun folk music and the accompanying instruments. Furthermore, screenings of the renowned film "Cape No. 7 (海角七號)" will also take place.

The musical will debut at the Ann Arbor District Library in Michigan on April 27 and at the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in New York on April 30.
