The Taipei Music Center (TMC) is staging an exhibition titled “Music, Island, Stories: Taiwan Calling!” at the University of Washington Library in Seattle, U.S. from Apr. 24 to May 28. This exhibition highlights 50 exhibits among over one thousand of the TMC’s collected items, chronicling significant events in Taiwan’s popular music history.
TMC President Kay Huang (黃韻玲) said that the music center aims to showcase the evolution of Taiwan’s popular music and share its remarkable growth with music enthusiasts worldwide. She also expressed her hope that this exhibition held in Seattle would entice more people to visit the TMC in Taiwan for the entire collections of its permanent exhibition.
Ma Shih-fang (馬世芳), the curatorial consultant for this exhibition, noted that Taiwan is one of the greatest Mandarin popular music producers in the globe that significantly impacted the whole sinosphere. He emphasized that Taiwan’s popular music, influenced by Austronesian and indigenous cultures, reflects the rich cultural diversity of the country.
