‘XiXi,’ Taiwanese director Wu Fan’s documentary film, to premiere in Canada

“XiXi,” a film by Taiwanese director Wu Fan (吳璠), has been selected for the International Competition program of the Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival. Celebrating its world premiere, director Wu Fan is invited to Toronto, Canada, to participate in the screening events on Apr. 28, Apr. 30, and May 4.


Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival is North America’s largest documentary festival, conference, and market. This year, the festival will showcase 168 documentary films from around the world, with the International Competition as its highlight.


Born in Taiwan, Wu Fan graduated with a B.A. in Sociology from National Taiwan University. She joined DocNomads Erasmus Mundus program in Documentary Filmmaking. She makes her debut in feature-length documentary directing with “XiXi.”


“XiXi” is a heartfelt essay film exploring womanhood, autonomy, and the power of self-reinvention. Its story revolves around the director Fan’s friendship with XiXi, a captivating performer Fan met in Berlin. Through intimate video diaries and glimpses into the women’s daily lives, the film explores intergenerational wounds and challenges entrenched beliefs.
