Taiwan’s Sunflower Movement 10th anniversary art exhibition launched in NYC

Commemorating the 10th anniversary of Taiwan’s Sunflower Movement, the Taiwanese American Arts Council (TAAC) hosts the international art exhibition titled “People’s Movements: Sunflower 10th Year Anniversary (人民的運動:太陽花10週年)” to review peoples’ political movements that have taken place around the world since 2014. Running from May 18 to June 9, the exhibition takes place at the Governors Island, New York City.

The exhibition features 70 artworks, including paintings, installations, sculptures, photographs, and videos, from 12 international art groups and artists. Representing Taiwan are Enbion Micah Aan (洪延平), the Island Sunrise Team (島嶼天光團隊), Liu Tsung-jung (劉宗榮), Liu Hsin-yi (劉欣怡), Kuo Chia-hsuan (郭家瑄), Deng Wen-jen (鄧文貞), and Chen Wei-ta (陳韋達). Additionally, artists from Hong Kong, Syria, Chile, and Ukraine showcase their works, each focusing on significant movements such as Hong Kong’s Umbrella Movement, the Arab Spring, the Chilean Winter, and the Ukrainian Euromaidan Revolution.

Occurring between March 18 and April 10, 2014, Taiwan’s Sunflower Movement is a protest movement driven by a coalition of students and civic groups against an opaque deal with China.
