Taiwanese dance group Hung Dance to debut in American Dance Festival

The Taiwan Academy, in collaboration with the American Dance Festival (ADF), invites Hung Dance (翃舞製作), a Taiwanese dance group, to perform their renowned dance piece “Birdy (羽人)” at the Reynold Industries Theater on June 14 and 15. This show marks Hung Dance’s debut in the U.S.

In 2017, choreographer Lai Hung-chung (賴翃中) founded Hung Dance, with the name Hung symbolizing the spirit of soaring freedom. Born from an unapologetic desire for flight, “Birdy” weaves Western mythology and Eastern traditions through stunning contemporary dance, challenging restriction through graceful movements and striking symbolism. This poetic journey of individual and collective soaring confronts contemporary issues while transforming feathers into wings.

Founded in 1934 by noted choreographer Martha Graham and educator Charles Weidman in North Carolina, the ADF has been committed to promoting international dance exchange and talent cultivation for nine decades. To date, the festival has hosted 507 outstanding choreographers, dance educators, and dancers from 93 countries.
