The Battery Dance Festival in New York City will take place from Aug. 11 to 17 at Rockefeller Park this year, bringing together 30 dance groups from eight countries, such as Taiwan, the U.S., Canada, Germany, the Netherlands, and India. Taiwanese dance group Focus Dance Company (焦點舞團) and choreographer Yeh Chen-jung (葉承融) will be featured in the festival.
The Battery Dance Festival is New York City’s longest-running free public dance festival. Each year, the Festival draws a combined audience of over 12,000 in-person and over 35,000 virtual viewers. This year marks the first collaboration between the Taipei Cultural Center in New York and the festival organizer.
On Aug. 11 and 13, Focus Dance Company will present their piece “Self-Portrait (自畫像).” Furthermore, Yeh Chen-jung will participate in the “Young Voices in Dance” program with his work “Rugged Road (歧路),” which will be showcased on Aug. 12 alongside works by nine other young choreographers.
