Taiwanese dance piece ‘Huang Yi and KUKA’ to be performed in US

The Taiwan Academy in Los Angeles, in collaboration with the California Institute of Technology (Caltech), will present the dance piece “Huang Yi & KUKA (黃翊與庫卡)” created by Taiwanese art group Huang Yi Studio+ (黃翊工作室+) at Caltech’s Beckman Auditorium on Oct. 18 and 19.

“Huang Yi & KUKA” weaves together the art of modern dance and the science of mechanical engineering in a series of stunning vignettes between live dancers from the Huang Yi Studio+ and KUKA, a robot conceptualized and programmed by Huang Yi, an acclaimed Taiwanese choreographer, dancer, and inventor. A seamless synthesis of human movement and innovation, “Huang Yi & KUKA” is a groundbreaking work that celebrates the future of humanity and technology and has captivated global audiences.

The Taiwan Academy in Los Angeles emphasized that, while Taiwan is renowned for its technological prowess, Taiwanese artists are equally skilled in integrating art with technological advancements. This event, the first collaboration between the academy and Caltech, marks the opening performance of Huang Yi Studio+’s U.S. tour.
