The Taiwan Academy of Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Los Angeles, in collaboration with the Bowers Museum in California, is set to present “The Eternal Garden,” the debut U.S. solo exhibition of Taiwanese artist Aka Chen (陳智權), from Nov. 16, 2024, to Apr. 13, 2025.
Aka Chen is one of the premiere artists around the world today working in titanium. The exhibition will showcase an exquisite assembly of 20 sculptures that ingeniously combine the intricacies of contemporary jewelry with fluid compositions of brush paintings.
Titanium, an immensely challenging material due to its high melting point and hardness, is at the heart of Aka Chen’s artistic production. Since first researching and fashioning jewelry from titanium in 1994, Aka Chen has been pioneering and marrying traditional metalworking techniques with innovative practices.
Chien Te-yuan (簡德源), director of the Taiwan Academy, noted that the exhibition will incorporate high-fidelity display technology developed by AUO Display Plus (友達光電), allowing viewers to appreciate the delicate craftsmanship of Chen’s work in great detail.
